Lent

Lent is a season of prayer and fasting leading to Easter. Dating back to the ninth century, the faithful would fast on certain days leading to Easter, such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. As the faith spread throughout Europe, the practice of fasting and prayer went on for forty days based on the forty days of Jesus’ fasting and praying while being tempted in the wilderness. Although Lent is a modern expression of our faith, fasting and praying are spiritual disciplines original to our Abrahamic roots; symbolic in the faith expressions of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Given Jesus’ forty days of fasting and praying, the forty years in the wilderness, and the forty days of the great flood, Lent in its purest form is a season of becoming anew; returning to our creator to be revived for what’s ahead. Let us experience anew the joy and strength of our salvation!
